This book was on my reading wish list, and a dear friend, Natalia, gave it to me as a gift in December during my visit to Colombia, my home country. She knows me incredibly well and was certain that I would adore this book. And she was absolutely right because I must admit that it inspired and motivated me to implement the 20/20/20 routine that Robin explains in the book.
I absolutely loved the way the author presents and encourages us to adopt habits and routines. He does it through the engaging story of a businesswoman and an artist who meet a man during an event, and he inspires them to join the 5 AM club.
Throughout the story, he gradually explains the reasons why it is crucial to wake up early and dedicate an hour to moving the body, reflecting, and learning something new.
The ultimate goal of the morning routine is to create habits of success, improve our productivity and creativity, and develop ourselves on a personal and professional level. In essence, it demonstrates how it can transform our lives when we implement and integrate it into our body and mind.
What is the 5 AM Club?
Robin Sharma emphasizes that success relies more on a person’s daily habits and routines than on their genetics. Consequently, waking up at 5 am and implementing the 20/20/20 formula, along with other advice from the book, will help us develop the habits and routines needed to achieve our goals.
I began implementing some habits and following the 20/20/20 formula on February 12, 2024, and I’m already in the implementation phase. I can confidently say that I’ve noticed benefits like increased concentration and more consistent energy levels throughout the day to accomplish my tasks.
Sharma discusses the advantages of rising early to make the most of that peaceful hour by engaging in activities that promote healthy habits, productivity, and creativity. Furthermore, he recommends dedicating 20 minutes each morning to personal or professional development.
The book provides detailed information on the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of waking up early and taking advantage of the day’s first hours. Moreover, you’ll discover the benefits of adopting this morning routine, such as improved productivity, mental clarity, and control over your life.
In summary, the 5 AM Club is a method for implementing routines that have helped numerous successful individuals create the life they desired.
“Growth is the real sport that the best play, every day. Education truly is inoculation against disruption. And as you become better you will have better, within all arenas of your life. I call this The 2x3x Mindset: to double your income and impact, triple your investment in two core areas—your personal mastery and your professional capability.”
What does the 20/20/20 formula consist of?
The routine should be performed from 5 AM to 6 AM and consists of three key components. First, dedicate 20 minutes to exercise. Next, spend 20 minutes on reflection, which can include prayer or meditation. Finally, allocate 20 minutes to learning through courses, reading, or listening to podcasts.
This practice offers numerous benefits, such as improved planning skills, increased discipline, enhanced persistence, and personal transformation. By consistently making these small daily changes, you will see results over time. Moreover, by living a satisfying life, we take control of our destiny.
Remember, the formula for success is simple: consistency combined with persistency equals results.
How to Implement the 5 AM Club in Your Life
The book reveals that neuroplasticity, a scientifically proven concept, allows our brain to continue growing, similar to how we can strengthen our willpower, much like a muscle. As a result, we have the ability to constantly learn and acquire new skills or knowledge throughout our lives.
Research indicates that it takes a minimum of 66 days for our body and brain to fully integrate a new habit. Robin divides these 66 days into three distinct stages:
1. Destruction: In this phase, old patterns of behavior are eliminated to make room for new ones.
2. Installation: During this stage, an internal reorganization takes place, replacing old habits with better ones.
3. Integration: Finally, our brain and body start to assimilate and encode the new routine, making it a natural part of our lives.
Consistency = DNA of Mastery
“The closer you get to your genius, the more you’ll face the sabotage of your fears”
The Legacy of the 5 AM Club: A Global Movement
Robin Sharma is a remarkable leader who inspires countless individuals to adopt healthy habits that enable us to become better people and professionals. I must say, the book has truly inspired me, and I am currently implementing the 20/20/20 formula by waking up at 5 AM. I can already see the changes, and I plan to gradually incorporate other recommendations from the book, such as the concept of the 5 journals and the bubble of total concentration.
Consequently, if you are someone seeking inspiration and practical tools to establish routines and habits that will guide you towards achieving your goals, this book will be incredibly beneficial for you.
“Only be around those people who fuel your joy. Only perform those pursuits that feed your bliss. Only be in those places that make you feel most alive.”
Additionally, there is the 5 AM Club app that helps you track and implement the 66-day program.
